Sustainable Architecture

What are the key principles of sustainable architecture?

Sustainable architecture is centred around designing buildings that minimize environmental impact and create healthy, energy-efficient spaces. Key principles include optimizing site potential, minimizing non-renewable energy consumption, and using environmentally preferable products.

This means considering the building's orientation, landscape, and local climate to maximize natural lighting, heating, and cooling, which reduces energy use. It also involves selecting materials that are durable, recyclable, and have low environmental impact. Water efficiency is another critical aspect, incorporating systems that reduce water consumption and promote recycling. Indoor environmental quality is also a priority, ensuring spaces are healthy and comfortable with good air quality, adequate lighting, and thermal comfort.

Overall, sustainable architecture seeks to balance functionality, cost, and aesthetic considerations with a comprehensive approach to reducing environmental impact.
