What is greenwashing?

Greenwashing is the practice of making deceptive claims about a product or company's environmental benefits to appear more environmentally friendly than it is. It's a significant issue as it can mislead consumers and undermine genuine sustainability efforts.

To avoid greenwashing, consumers can look for third-party certifications, scrutinize claims for vague language like 'eco-friendly' without specific details, and research the company's overall environmental practices. Checking for a company's sustainability reports and its reputation in independent assessments can also be helpful.

Being informed and critical of claims is crucial as greenwashing not only misleads consumers but also diverts support from truly sustainable initiatives.
